Multiracial Students Included in Data

Multiracial Students Included in Data

The information below is from a news story about a school district. This is EXACTLY the kind of information we have worked for--including multiracial students--and want to see. Good job!

• Increasing achievement results in each ethnic group (Anglo, African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian-American and multiracial) by grade level: Reading increased in three of the six ethnic groups - Hispanics, Asian-Americans and multi-racial; math achievement increased in four of the six ethnic groups - Anglo, Hispanic, Asian-American and multiracial.

  1. I have a question, Susan. Why can't the U.S. Census Bureau figure out how to do this? Perhaps the people who collected and calculated these data need to lend a hand and show the USCB how it's done. Just a wild and crazy suggestion.

Thanks for posting, Susan, and good luck winning a substantial grant from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank!

  2. Catherine, the Census Bureau really wants things to do business as usual. Multiracial people just confuse them! We have made GREAT strides in the past 22 years, including getting "check two or more" starting with the 2000 Census, but we still have a long way to go. Unfortunately, federal agencies prefer to solicit input from academics and scientists, not stakeholders and advocates.

Thank YOU for putting us in the running for the grant! -Susan Graham for Project RACE.
