HATE-CRIME CHARGES BROUGHT

A man has been held since late October on a racially motivated attack on an interracial family and their two multiracial children in San Francisco. Hosea Matavao was charged with three counts of assault, one count of endangering a child and one count of battery, according to the district attorney. He has pleaded not guilty.

We have been in touch with the DA's office. Four of the five charges have hate-crime allegations attached. Matavao 's original hearing was moved to December 6. Project RACE will continue to monitor this case.

  1. I have never understood what it is that makes some people think they have the right to attack mixed race married couples who have multiracial children. This is insanity! We sincerely hope the attacker gets the help he so obviously needs and that this innocent family can recover from this unwarranted traumatic experience.
